blazing in austin

Tonight's episode of PBS' Austin City Limits featured 60 minutes of Arcade Fire -- and what an hour it was. Never have I been so impressed -- and excited -- by a band's televised performance. "Intervention" and "Antichrist Television Blues" nearly brought me to tears.
Arcade Fire's stage presence was organized chaos at its finest. William Butler, brother of lead singer Win, ran amok playing the synthesizer and banging cymbals, a snare and other percussive elements. The flamboyant Regine Chassagne, wife of Win, commanded the stage whether she was singing, or playing the hurdy gurdy, accordion, keyboards, percussion or drums. And Win appeared to pour every ounce of his soul into every song; thirty minutes into the telecast he was dripping with sweat.
Tonight's episode of Austin City Limits was one for the ages.

Totally impressed as well, and shocked how powerful it came across through tv. Last time I saw a televised performance that you could feel that way was The Who at the concert for NYC back in 2001.
